I have always been a fan of Saffron in downtown Minneapolis. The food and service is outstanding. It is one of my go to restaurants in Minneapolis. Then, I heard they were also running a food truck called World Street Kitchen. Unfortunately, I work in the burbs so I haven’t been able to make it to the food truck for lunch. Finally, last November they opened a brick-and-mortar outpost of World Street Kitchen on Lyndale.
We were in the Uptown neighborhood this weekend and there was no question about where to go for lunch. It had to be World Street Kitchen. The restaurant is at 2743 Lyndale Avenue South and there is some off-street parking just north of the building. We arrived just before 1pm and the restaurant was busy, but not overly packed or crowded. The process is to order at the front counter and then the food is brought to your table.
Here is a link to the current menu.
We ordered and then sat at a booth by the windows. We had ordered two entrees and dessert for here and then I also ordered a few items to go for later so I could try more things on the menu.
The food was delivered in about 10 minutes. The service was great. Everyone was polite and friendly.
Everything was absolutely delicious. The rice bowl was awesome with the meat, rice, egg, kimchi and sauce. The Rasta Torta was phenomenal with a perfect harmony of meat, sauce and toppings.
I also ordered two items to bring home.
The MFC sandwich was great. The chicken was lightly fried and the spice mix was fragrant and tasty. The spicy feta sauce combined with the carrots was a perfect combination with the chicken. The burrito was also delicious.
Overall, I was so impressed with World Street Kitchen. The food was very tasty and the service was great. There is enough variety on the menu that I believe everyone will find something they like and there are quite a few menu items that can be made gluten-free and/or vegetarian.
If you live in the Twin Cities or if you plan on visiting, you should definitely try World Street Kitchen.
